The opening of this tunnel since communism was a military secret is the first step of a Defence Ministry project to restore and rehabilitate the entire infrastructure complex in the Gulf of Panorma for military and civilian functions.
The opening of the steel gate of this concrete - coated water tunnel put its mechanism in motion for the first time after over three decades of failure.
The opening of the tunnel was carried out under the direction of the engineering staff of Janice's battalion and passed smoothly. It was Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama himself who published the images from the opening of this tunnel.
The government's head stressed that with the opening of the Porto Palermos underwater tunnel, the defence ministry's project to turn Panorma Bay into a destination of historic tourism.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the next step will be to adapt noninvasive and facilities to the complex that no longer enjoy military functions, with the aim of creating a sustainable tourist attraction, respecting environmental norms and offering as high sea security conditions.
