France's President Emmanuel Macron has said he will remain committed to implementing the Brussels Agreement and the Ohrid annex for normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia. He sees this as the only way.
Marco before today's visit to Belgrade has been addressed to the citizens of Serbia with a message published on the medium “Danas”.
He has called on Serbia and young people in Serbia to choose peace.
In 2019, when I spoke about the Kosovo issue, I spoke with the courage needed to reach a compromise. Entrusted that this courage exists in Serbia, we, along with our European Germany and partners, with US support, wanted to help the region avoid unilateral movements, reckless statements, rising tensions, the main victims of which are people living on the ground, especially the Serb minority in Kosovo. The way we proposed towards needed normalisation preserves the essence: the possibility of Serbs living in Kosovo by respecting the law, but without giving up their identity or natural ties with Serbia; but also the existence of guarantees regarding the preservation of Serbian cultural and religious heritage.
This road is driven: Anything that slows progress on that road is at the expense of the people who live there. I am convinced that this compromise is in line with Serbia's interests and given the Serbs' strong feelings on the issue, by respecting them, I invite Serbia and invite young people in Serbia to choose peace and choose the future. I will personally remain engaged, as I am sure that the EU as a whole will remain, in implementing the Ohrid Agreement and, above all, in creating a Serb majority community of municipalities”, it says in the Macron message.
