Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has published a new report FDI Intelligence) by the Financial Times showing that Kosovo ranks second in Europe and fifth in the world for economic development.

According to this report, Kosovo also ranks fourth in the world for year-on-year improvement for the period 2022-2023. Kurti has used this report to highlight Kosovo's priorities as an attractive destination for foreign investors and to underline the country's democratic and economic progress.

However, Kosovo Central Bank statistics (BQK) do not speak of such a large increase in foreign direct investments in Kosovo, nor their orientation in the production sector.

According to the CEC, of 214m euros in Direct Foreign Investment (IHD) for the first three months of this year, 142m euros have been oriented into the real estate sector, or about 66.1% of the total IHD. Investments in real estate in Kosovo are made mainly by the diaspora.

However, this report has caused a wave of criticism and has been regarded as inaccurate and peaceful.

Pal Lekaj: This report on economic development should not be taken seriously

AAK MP Paul Lekaj has criticised the latest report published by Prime Minister Kurti in a statement for Front Online, viewing it as an attempt to disguise Kosovo's difficult economic reality.

Lekaj has stressed that the report on the FDI Intelligence) by the Financial Times, which ranks Kosovo second in Europe and the fifth in the world for economic development, is incorrect and does not reflect the real situation in the country. According to Lekaj, Kosovo has experienced visible stagnation over the past four years.

It has noted several major problems: significant price increases, which have significantly burdened citizens' living conditions; the escape of the workforce, which has had a negative impact on productivity and economic development; and the closure of many small and medium-sized businesses, which have been driven to close because of inadequate economic conditions and lack of government support.

Lekaj has accused Kurti Government of lack of transparency and of failing to publish reports by important institutions, which would provide a more accurate picture of the economic situation in the country. He has criticised the government for failing to support family economies and agriculture, as well as for failing to provide support for the development of key economic sectors.

In this context, Lekaj has described the report as an attempt to create a false image of economic progress, ignoring the fact that the country is facing a series of deep economic problems that are not adequately addressed by the government. He has stressed that this attempt to hide reality is one of the signs of poor and unsuccessful governance that Kosovo has experienced during this mandate

Kosovo has been focusing on our country's economic development for four years of government. Truths like the rise of all prices, the flight of the labour force, the closure of many businesses, the failure to support the family economies, the support of farmers, the unsafe market for local producers, the lack of foreign investors who lack security and electricity, the poor conditions and lack of health insurance in the labour market and the private sector, the lack of proper strategies and policies of this government, the deadlock of over 700 million euros in capital investments, the destruction of reports with internationals and European sanctions at hundreds of millions of value, are the best evidence that Kosovo has any worse economic development than ever,<> said. Lekay.

Ferat Shala: The report is part of the pre-electoral campaign Kurt has started.

MP Ferat Shala from the PDK ranks in a proposal for Front Online has accused Prime Minister Kurti of lack of concrete figures and of names of investors who would witness real economic development. According to Shala, the report is a part of the pre-electoral campaign and efforts to create a false perception of success, hiding failures and real shortages in development and capital investment projects. He has stressed that such reports and statements are of peace and do not reflect the current situation of the Kosovo economy.

I think otherwise. Kosovo not that there has been no economic development, but the prime minister cannot tell us any concrete figures, the prime minister cannot tell us any name of the investor, he cannot say any position or production line that has come from this stage of development, he cannot tell us any conclusion of projects that have been initiated earlier neither infrastructural nor other capital investments, so in principle this is part of the pre-electoral campaign which the prime minister has already launched, perhaps in other circles, in order to create such an atmosphere that is entirely unresistable and unrealized <1> Shala said it.

Rukiqi: Foreign investments in Kosovo are real estate

While Berat Rukiqi from the Democratic League of Kosovo days ago in a post in “Facebook” wrote that foreign investments in Kosovo are: Real estate, investment bank profit.

There is actually no investment project that has affected economic development, nor the creation of new jobs. The language of the prime minister's war and war, in every global media, has prompted discouragement and inhibition of foreign and domestic investments”, written among other things Rukiqi.

Hakki Shatri: Kurti's war statements with Serbia have frightened foreign investors

Haki Shatri, former finance minister, has expressed similar doubts about Front Online, stressing that Kurti's report does not correspond to the reality of foreign investment in Kosovo. He has stressed that foreign investments have dropped for about 100m euros and that government statements on the possibility of a potential conflict with Serbia have contributed to the intimidation of investors and their withdrawal from Kosovo. Shatri has considered economic development under Kurti's rule as lower than ever, and has stressed that Kosovo has had a low growth rate of only 3.2% for 2023.

The foreign investments last year have dropped for about 100m euros, and the work of attracting foreign investments has deteriorated precisely because of the position of prime minister and other ministers, the head of our state declaring we will have war, that Serbia is preparing to attack Kosovo and other statements that have discouraged foreign investors and have withdrawn from Kosovo, even those they have. Investing in Kosovo is being withdrawn heading towards Macedonia, other countries

Economic development in the mandate of Prime Minister Kurti is the lowest in the period following the proclamation of independence, where in 2023 it was the rate of adding only 3.2%8x0>, It's the Shatri.
