Havenier: Senator Dole's efforts were essential to respond directly to Milosevic's regime

US Ambassador Jeff Hovenier, at the 34th anniversary of the visit of American senators led by Bob Dole, today in Pristina reminded of his work and efforts on the Kosovo issue in 1999, when Slobodan Milosevic's regime was conducting ethnic cleansing in Kosovo. Havenier said that Dole did not want just words, [...]
Hüvenier said that Dole wanted not only words but also deeds.
He called for action by the American government, from government partners and especially from himself”.
He said that Dole came to Kosovo 34 years ago for “the question of denying basic human rights by the Milosevic regime, which were not very well-known or well understood by the international community”.
“Senator Dole knew there was something wrong and wrong, so he wanted to know more”.
He said he arranged for the senator's visit to see the situation.
He [Dole] wanted everyone on this planet to enjoy these rights, including people in Kosovo. His pledge was firm for democracy, human dignity, his willingness to stand for anyone who is denied these rights”.
Hovenier said Dole tried to make the voices of the people of Kosovo heard and that their rights be respected.
His “efforts have been absolutely essential to receive international support to respond directly to Milosevic's brutal regime of the ethnic cleansing campaign”.
