Fires in Prevala, Reuters writes about Kosovar helping firefighters with his motorcycle

As firefighters in southern Kosovo prayed for rain in their battle against fires in the Sharr Mountains National Park, a young man on a motorcycle approached them and said: “I am here to help”. Allmedin Smail, 26, a dentist from nearby Prizren, has been helping [...] for seven days.

Allmedin Smail, 26, a dentist from the nearby city of Prizren, has been helping firefighters stop a fire in the park where he and his friends usually ride their motorcycles to enjoy excitement on the rough terrain.

Two men at the firehouse fill bags with 25 liters each, and Smail transports them to other firemen used to extinguish the flames while burning large pool areas, Reuters writes, broadcast Express.

Most of the time, he holds two backpacks with a total of 50 liters of water, food, and bottles of drinking water.

When I saw what the firemen were going through and how devoted they are, I told myself I had to do something”, Samili said as she prepared to transport more water.

On Wednesday, Smail called three other friends to transport more water after the breeze stopped flames and an American helicopter from the peacekeeping mission NATO in Kosovo started pouring water. The challenge is to stop the slow burning of oaks that can once again be lit with a more destructive fire.

To reach the highest water point on our back, we need three hours, and the boy (Smail) was doing it in less than ten minutes”, said Flamur Hoti, commander of firemen.

We never imagined that he could be so useful”

The video from his GoPro camera shows Smail handing water to his young colleagues as his motorcycle sped along paths made by brown bears and wild goats.

On the left and right side of it, steep slopes can be seen through the tracks of old areas still visible.

Firefighters cannot reach the terrain about 900m above sea level.

“Mothocle is a hobby for me, but this week turned into a real job”, he said, smiling.

When I see and influence, it gives me satisfaction and I've never been tired during these days”.
