Even the European Union has been disappointed by the recent Kosovo Government action on the closure of illegal municipalities in the north. Today's “Operation of the Kosovo Police against Serbia-backed offices in northern Mitrovica, Zvecan, Zubin Potok and Leposaviq, held under Kosovo Government guidelines, jeopardises the fragile security situation on the ground”, It says reactions.
The point is that EULEX is immediately set to monitor the development of this operation, which was not co-ordinated with the EU and international partners.
“The EU wants to repeat that Kosovo is committed to de-progress. The EU has repeatedly called on Kosovo to avoid any action that could negatively affect the security of people on the ground. Unfortunately, our calls have been ignored by the Kosovo government”.
Their response reportedly said that this Kosovo police operation in the north could lead to further escalation of a situation, which, according to them, is already unstable.
“The EU would like to reiterate that the current police operation against Serbia-backed offices could lead to further escalation of an already unstable” situation.
