An EU spokesman said discussions on opening the bridge are continuing and the EU is closely co-ordinating with its international partners in Kosovo.
All dialogue agreements, including that of the bridge, must be implemented fully. The EU urges all sides to refrain from any uncoordinated and unilateral action”.
“The EU plans to put the bridge issue on the agenda of the upcoming dialogue meeting. Any meeting of the dialogue will be announced at the right time”, this EU spokesperson for Klonkosova.tv said.
The country's prime minister, Albin Kurti, has said yesterday that the opening issue of the Ibër Bridge is the issue of Kosovo, which, according to him, has been closed in terms of Brussels in 2016-17, and, as he said, the bridge should be opened.
The Ibër Bridge issue is the issue of Kosovo, is the issue which has been closed in terms of Brussels in 2016-2017, and the bridge must be opened. We want both free movement of citizens and rule of law and peace and security. From our point of view, what we should expect is the report on the sustainability of the” bridge.
“It is not a matter of discussion it is an opening issue. In 2016 all discussions were concluded and it was said that the bridge should open on January 20, 2017. Now we're not even in January 2017. We're in August 2024”, Kurt said.
The idea for opening the bridge has sparked sharp reactions from the international factor, based on Kosovo's international partners. The US, EU, Germany and other allied states of Kosovo have said the bridge should not be opened at this time.
They have even warned that such a thing could endanger the lives of KFOR soldiers.
