Respondance on Lawyers at Special Court
The Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kosovo through this reaction exposes baseless and biased news that is spreading about payments to lawyers committed to protecting former KLA leaders near Specialised Chambers in The Hague.
To this day, the Ministry of Justice has paid a total of 26,179,562 euros (one and six million, one hundred seventy-nine thousand five hundred sixty-two euros) for the protection of persons being held in custody. The claims that the Ministry is not paying lawyers enough are completely false.
People who are attracted to their duties may find different excuses, but low wages are not one of them.
Lawyer Ben Emmerson, who represents Mr. Kadri Wessel, has benefited from the Justice Ministry a total of 4,019,724.91 euros (four million and nineteen thousand seven hundred twenty-four euros and ninety-nine-one euro).
The justice ministry continues to work professionally within its competencies and capacities to meet all defence requirements for all those who are being tried unjustly by the Special Court.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Justice with particular attention conveys every action within the Special Court and is committed to doing the best possible job to protect the rights and interests of former KLA leaders, making sure that they have full support at every step of this process.
