However, the dialogue mediated by the European bloc has not reached expectations.
The last meeting in Brussels between Kurti and Vuciqi brought no results, so the parties continue to have diametrically opposed positions.
Despite the dialogue stalled, EU Ambassador to Kosovo Thomas Szunyog, even in his recent days in this position, speaks optimistic about the future of this process.
<x) As you have seen during my mandate I am fully committed to this issue because it is very important that Kosovo and Serbia normalise reports”, Szunyog told Tv1.
The European diplomat has made it clear that without normalisation of reports neither Kosovo nor Serbia can become part of the European union.
At the same time, he is demanding that the parties begin with the implementation of agreements.
I am making it clear once again that only through the full normalisation of Kosovo and Serbia can join the large European family. So if you're seriously committed to membership in the European Union you have to engage more in dialogue and you have to implement all the agreements. But it must be said that so far the parties have not made sufficient progress in implementing the” agreements, he said.
Brussels considers the Ohrid Agreement a major achievement the parties reached in 2023.
Szunoygun will succeed, Estonian diplomat Aivo Ora, at the post of EU special representative in Kosovo.
According to the EU, he will take office on September 1st 2024 and will have an initial two-year mandate, succeeding Thomas Szunyog, who has been in office since 2020.
