US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Western Balkans Alexander Kasanoff will oversee American politics for this region, which essentially has its support on the road to European integration and membership in Euro-Atlantic institutions.
So said a spokesman for the US State Department (DASH), questioned by Radio Free Europe concerning Kasanofi's intentions in the new post.
Kasanoff took up the post of deputy assistant secretary for the Western Balkans on 19 July this year.
Similarly, in this post was Gabriel Escobar, whose term ended in May.

He added that Kasanoff will engage closely even with Kosovo and Serbia leaders and with European partners, “on the road towards achieving a normal, peaceful and productive relationship between the two countries”.
Kasanoff, since 19 July, is also deputy assistant secretary for Media and Public Diplomacy at the US State Department's Bureau for European and Eurasian Affairs.
According to the biography published on the UN website, he served as an executive assistant under former Political Affairs Secret, Victoria Nuland, and during the mandate of Undersecretary for Political Affairs Commander John Bass.
Cassanoff has served in Ireland, Turkmenistan, Chile, and Ukraine.
He has received the award for his work as political adviser to the Embassy in Kiev during the Maidani Revolution and later the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
