The specialist announced that the act of prejudice against Shala, who is accused of running an improvised prison when people were allegedly mistreated and one killed, will be announced at a public session and that it “could be forwarded to Albanian, English and Serbian”.
Shala is accused of approximately between 17 May 1999 and 5 June 1999, along with several KLA soldiers, policemen and guards, taking part in the arbitrary ban, cruel treatment, torture and in a case in the unlawful murder of a detainee in Albania's Kukes metal factory.
According to Aktakuza, the victims of these crimes were persons suspected of co-operating with Serbia or not supporting the KLA, and of not actively participating in fighting.
Eight victims represented by a lawyer participated in the judicial process.
The Judge of Pre-Precience Procedure confirmed the initial indictment against Peter Shala on June 12, 2020, and he was arrested in Belgium on March 16, 2021 and was later transferred to special custody on April 15th of that year.
The trial of Shala began on February 21, 2023. He has been declared innocent and has said the charges against him are fabricated.
