SPAK for the arrest of former Health Minister: Charged for Corruption and Hidden Wealth

Albania's Special Anti-Corruption and Organised Crime Prosecutor has come up with an official announcement concerning the arrest of former Health Minister Ilir Beqaj.
The SPAK suggests Beqaj is accused of setting up a scheme for the embezzlement of European Union funds in the quality of the SASPAC General Director, Euronews reports.
According to the prosecution's body, Ilir Beqaj in co-operation with Ermal Kurtulaj, his subordinate, whom he appointed as the co-ordinator of the office “Phicility Point” for the EUSAIR project, conducted during the period 2022-2023 at least eight cases of tender abuse.
The Special Prosecutor informs that tenders have been developed with competitive negotiation procedure or simple procurement, predestining by SASPAC leader Ilir Beqaj.
In one of the cases, Beqaj is accused of procurement a conference on Tourism for the equivalent of 125 thousand euros, the competition which was provided and the Ministry of Environment many times cheaper.
Beqaj is charged with the Special Prosecutor for Corruption and Hide wealth.
