Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has been addressed with a letter yesterday to party leaders in the country who have invited them for a consultative meeting to set the date of general elections in the country.
Last night, Osman's letter was published in the media. Initially, Osman explains procedures as envisioned with the Constitutions and the Law on General Elections, where he announces that the phase is under which consultations can begin.
She has invited party leaders to meet on August 31st, at 2: 00 p.m.
Beyond this letter, I am addressing you regarding common consultation for the appointment of general elections date in the Republic of Kosovo.
In accordance with the set term at Article 66 (2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo and Article 5 (2) of Law No. 08/L -228 for the General Elections in the Republic of Kosovo (“Law”), fair elections for the Assembly, should be held during January 26th-16th February 2025. Consequently, in accordance with the definitions of the Constitution and the Law, today on 26 July, officially begins the phase within which consultations on the appointment of the election date can be held.
In this direction, based on my constitutional competencies for declaring elections for the Republic of Kosovo Assembly, you are invited to the consultative meeting on July 31, 2024, at 2: 00 p.m. at the ST301 Hall in the Assembly Building of the Republic of Kosovo”, the Ottoman letter says.
The last national elections were held on February 14, 2021, when the Vetevendosje Movement came first with more than 50 per cent of the vote. The second party was PDK, the third to LDK, and the fourth to the AAK. Fatmir Limaj's party had failed to pass the election threshold.
Vetevendosje had won the coalition elections with the “Gux” established by Vjosa Osmani, now president of the Republic.
