Rex: KPM law is of an anti-media spirit

Xhemajl Rexha, chairman of the Kosovo Journalists' Association Board (AGK), said the Law for Independent Media Commission (KPM) with everything it envisions inside is of an anti-media spirit. According to Raja, the way the whole process for the KPM Law was developed, according to the international community, the expert's report and themselves, shows that there has been a lack of involvement of civil society, of true fascists to contribute to this law.
In “Tempus“, he said they were invited only once to a public hearing and have had a meeting in the prime minister's office along with Zousar and Imer Mushkolajn from the Council of Written Media to offer civil society readiness to work together. So for the law to come up in the best version.
And nothing happened, we were ignored by the Government of Kosovo until we saw it last December 28th of last year when the Government put it online, in fact approved the Bill to send it to the Kosovo Assembly. The whole way the process went and the purpose of this law with everything you're looking at inside is of an anti-media spirit. Unfortunately, this is our assessment, of a spirit aimed at reducing media pluralism in Kosovo, is aimed at controlling-disciplinary in the softest form of the media, especially online media”, Rexha said.
He said the problem at the outset was the idea that there will be a monitoring/control, online media recording containing video content.
According to him, they have estimated that this is not the right time to do this because the KPM has the capacity to perform this job while monitoring, controlling and fines television and radios.
The deployment of hundreds of online portals would serve as a load. Second, the KPM never has full independence from politics. Of course, we will discuss the increase in the number of KPM members, the manner of selecting KPM members with the new Law, which I believe will be part of the ongoing discussion that we believe is being done deliberately by the Vetevendosje Movement and Government to control. KPM politically and to influence its decisions against media in the future”, Rexha said.
As for what MP Ramadani said AGK's reaction is not good for the country, citing links that are located on it, Rajj said that dates exist for everyone.
“They are with dates, meaning there has been a summary of all reactions. So whoever comes in and sees that there was a reaction in May, in June, a response and then there were those proposals and I knew that you would always use this job, it's easier because you knew it was so heavy the proposal to have political parties and religious groups, to be able to get license for the opening of television”, Rexha said.
He said it has been expected that this article will be removed because for democracy as Kosovo has developed after the war, it has been unimaginable to allow political parties and religious groups to open television. Rexha said it's clear that this will always be taken as an example.
The AGK Board Chairman added that internationals have estimated the Law does not meet European standards.
