OEK hard government after stopping the flow of cargo transport vehicles weighing over 7.5 tons

Kosovo's Economic Oda as a representative of the business community has questioned the recent decision to ban the flow of cargo vehicles weighing over 7.5 tonnes, which has entered into force from July 14, 2024. “While we understand the need to preserve road infrastructure during periods [...]
“While we understand the need to maintain road infrastructure during periods of high temperatures, this decision has a direct and very serious impact on the regular operation of companies and economic activities inside and outside our country”.
According to OEK, given that the absolute majority of raw materials are imported to our country, then, as a consequence of this decision, local production companies will have a major challenge in securing raw materials from other countries.
Furthermore, production companies are afraid that they can lose hard-earned foreign markets due to export restrictions, especially for local seasonal products that can be exported only in this period.
Commercial and transport companies are facing shortages in the supply chain, which will cause increased spending for local companies and as a result will not be able to afford these costs.
“Consisting that no country in the region has set such restrictions, we don't see it significant that only Kosovo imposes such a restriction, especially knowing that our roads are built with quality much higher than those of the countries of the region”, the report said.
