Valon Murati from the Movement for the Union has named the killing of fugitives from the Smrekonica prison, Faton Hajriz, by Serbian authorities in Loznica, as a failure of the justice system and society in general.
Hajriz, who fled the Smrekonica prison weeks ago, where he was serving his sentence, is suspected of killing a Serb police officer and wounding two others a day earlier in the vicinity of the Serbia-Bosnian and Herzegovina border.
Murati stressed that Faton Hajrizi's case is a long and painful leg for Kosovo's family and society.
He describes this situation as a failure not only of the justice system but also of society in general, underlining the need for more work on integrating such people.
This case symbolizes the deepest problems we have in society, including the state of prisons and the situation within them. We have to work for people to be integrated into society, not to become radical religious fundamentalists or more hardened criminals than when they entered prison”, Murati said on the “show. Info Plus” in RTK.
According to Murati, responsibility should be sought in institutions which he says have legal responsibilities to create security circumstances for prisoners and educate them, while noting that institutions are responsible even when prisoners escape and must capture them.
Also, Murati spoke about dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia in Brussels, commenting on the sequence plan for the normalisation of relations agreement, which the two sides have handed over to the mediators.
According to him, Kosovo and Serbia are not willing to agree, nor to implement agreements, especially until it becomes clear who will be the head of the European Union's foreign policy.
Moreover, Murati stressed that neither side would take substantial steps in dialogue because of elections in America.
