Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has again written about Ismail Kadare the largest Albanian writer to change life today, who said in his youth he heard it as “sensitivity and inspiration” until, as he said, “experienced under the dictatorship and oppression of Belgrade”.
“Under the darkness of the dictatorship, Ismail Kadare was the enlightenment of creativity, humanity and the individual genius. He was forced, like most of his countrymen, to live within the strictest political and artistic restrictions; yet he found ways to shine, question and laugh”.
His “Romanians were based on Albanian culture and history, but his themes and voice (especially in his poetry) were universal. His International Book Prize for Man (first given) and his repeated nominations for the Nobel Prize for Literature reflect his global statue: he spoke of people everywhere, struggling to survive and find a light of purity between compromises and life restrictions. Raised in Kosovo under the dictatorship and hope of Belgrade, and later as a political prisoner, I heard Ismail Kadare's voice as empathy and as inspiration”, Kurti wrote at “X”.
