Mobile phones will be stopped in Italian classrooms in the new school year, under a decree issued Thursday by Prime Minister Giorgia Mellon's right-wing administration.
The move was introduced by Education Minister Giuspe Valditara and aims to ban the use of smart phones in schools, including for educational purposes, foreign media write, Telegraph.
Tablets and computers can still be used with the approval of teachers.
In addition, schoolchildren should be encouraged to improve their handwriting skills.
Valditara further announced the reintroduction of a “school calendar” in which tasks should be written by hand.
The ban on mobile phones in Italian schools has been set up for several years but has not been widely implemented.
