Ilir Beqaj seeks freedom, lawyer: There's no danger of going abroad.

It was his defense attorney, who argued that the former minister is not in danger of leaving the country, or even obstructing the investigation evidence. So, seeking freedom for him.

On July 6th, the Special Court (GJKKO) has cleared the verdict, which left former Health Minister Ilir Beqaj in prison ignoring the 5 million-dollar enrichment.

Beqaj was arrested two days ago after being accused of abuse of EU funds during the time that he was the director of the SASPAC.

According to the JCKKO, it is suspected of committing criminal acts “corruption passively of senior state officials” carried out in co-operation, “Refusing for statements, non-declaration, hiding or false declaration of property, private interests of elected persons and public servants, or of any other person who has the legal obligation to make statements<3>, <x> The violation of the equality of participants in tenders or public auctions”, conducted in co-operation.

Meanwhile this Saturday, a change in security measures was made for the other associate, Alfred Nikola, who was placed under house arrest.

The former minister's defence stressed that, “, the EU rules known as the threshold in legal language, have not been violated by Mr. Beqaj”.

The SPAK announced that, Beqaj in the director's quality, acting as a commanding officer in co-operation with Kurtoulay, himself appointed by him on May 26th 2022 as office co-ordinator “Phicility Point” for the EUSAIR project, at SASPAC, over the years 2022-2023 allegedly carried out extinguish procurement procedures contrary to the rules.

According to the prosecution, at least eight provided services under the events: “Mbi organisation of the Conference FESTA (The Future of Sustainable Environmental Tourism in Albania”, as well as “Power Conference”, organised in 2023, has not been subjected to a regular procurement procedure, but the winner has agreed and defined much before the procurement procedure, which has been implemented in a non-stopty, for documentation and payment.

These tenders have been developed with competitive negotiation procedure or simple procurement, which are ordered to be carried out by Beqaj in the quality of the Director General.
