United States Vice President Kamala Harris provided sufficient support among the Democratic Party delegates to become her presidential candidate.
An Associated Press survey published Monday evening pointed out that Harris has the support of more than 1,976 needed delegates to win the nomination.
The vote will take place from August 1st to 7th.
The delegates are the people chosen to represent their electoral zone in the National Democratic Convention, where, formally, the candidate for president is declared.
This convention will begin operations on August 19th and will be completed by the 22nd of that month.
President Joe Biden gave Harris support to compete for president after he himself withdrew from the race for re-election in the November elections.
Beden made the decision on July 21st, following growing concerns about his age and health, but pledged he would remain in office until the end of the presidential mandate, January 20th, 20th.
After giving support to Harris, millions of dollars of donations entered her campaign, while the main representatives of the Democratic Party lined up, as well, after that.
If you win the party's nomination, Harris will compete in the November 5th elections against Republican candidate and former president Donald Trump.
“We have 106 days until election day and, during this period, we have a hard job doing”, Harris said in front of her campaign staff at Willmington State Delauer.
Our event has always been about two different versions of what we see as the future of our country. One focuses on the future, the other focuses on the past. Donald Trump wants to take our country back... We believe in a brighter future, which makes room for all Americans”, said Harris, who before serving as vice president, was the general prosecutor of California and senators.
Her comments were answered by Trump's campaign. Secretary for the media Caroline Leavitt said Harris “is as disabled as Joe Biden, and even more liberal”.
“Kamala, not only should she defend her support for Joe Biden's failed agenda over the past four years, but also must answer for her terrible record of crime in California”, Leavitt said.
Harris, 59, outlined some policies that he said would follow if elected presidents, including the signing of laws to protect abortion rights and prevent assault rifles.
She said that the reconstruction of the middle class will bring her presidency into focus.
Harris also noted President Biden's achievements, saying her service as his deputy was the “one of the greatest favors of my life”.
I love Joe Beden and I know we all love”, Harris said.
The News Web site The Hill reports that a total of 72 surveys bring Trump to the upper point against Harris by about 2.5 percent more support.
But, political analysts say Harris is not yet as well-known by the public and can win in the polls, as he conducts intensive campaign throughout the country and has more media coverage. /Radio Europe Free
