Reactions from Kosovo for abolishing visas for Serbian illegal passports holders
Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has stated that the European Union Council's decision to remove the visa regime of Kosovo citizens who own Serbian illegal passports, “is negatively in extending the rule of law and the integration of the Serbian community”. The President said these statements at the meeting with Ambassador Havenier.
“Speaking of the recent developments in the country, the president expressed concern about the European Union Council's yesterday's decision to remove the visa regime from Kosovo citizens who possess Serbian illegal passports, stressing that this decision negatively affects the extent of the rule of law throughout Kosovo, as well as affects efforts to integrate the Serb community into Kosovo” - said in communique. According to the announcement at the meeting, Osman's participation in NATO Summit activities has been discussed, at the invitation of President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, respectively.
“Praising the invitation of the US and the presence of Kosovo in these key activities of the summit as a strategic development for the benefit of advancing and preserving peace and security in the region and beyond, President Osmani reached the positive impact that Kosovo's membership in NATO would have for lasting and long-term security” becomes known in the announcement. Osmani and Ambassador Houvenier, as reported in the communiqué, also discussed a series of legal initiatives being addressed by recent institutions, “m which confirmed the importance of ensuring respect for democratic principles and higher standards for human rights”, The Presidency's announcement said.
The government had a severe response to the issue, even Minister Donika Grovalla did not hesitate to attack the European Union, saying that “Somebody within the European Union is working on partitioning Serbs in Kosovo”.
For passports that are not issued by legitimate institutions we've hesitated and warned and informing important actors. Those (BE) have made a decision that not only in our opinion leads to error, but makes it clear that some EU acts are interested in the integration of the Serb minority in Kosovo, but work at dividing them. The faster citizens' integration into legal structures equipped with legal documents leads to atmosphere and space for all of them and for all of us”She said.
The opposition has declared the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), where, through a media conference, Deputy President Mimoza Ahmetaj said her party is disappointed over the EU Council's decision to liberalise visas of Kosovo Serb citizens who own passports issued by Serbian illegal institutions.
Ahmetaj accused Kurti Government has not reacted in time and has not insisted enough on the agreement reached in dialogue on free movement to be respected.
“The PDK has expected the European Union to support Kosovo in its goal of integrating Kosovo Serbs within the legitimate institutions of our state, so that they can equip with official Kosovo documents. This decision only contributes to the distance of Kosovo Serbs and encourages them not to become an integral part of our society and state. However, even this international decision that comes as a consequence for Kosovo today had a local cause: Government of Kosovo! Since the first day of government, the current government has had a non-serious approach to our dialogue and allies. This Government has shown inadequacy and no deep responsibility in its actions and inactions in foreign policy, through which it is now proving to have harmed our country's interests.
The wrong policies of this government, which are always reactive but never active, have in no case managed to protect the interests of our country, nor to push ahead with Kosovo's statehood and consolidation agenda. Our government, unfortunately, has not yet realised that their poor comments within four walls in Pristina are deaf in the European Union Institutions”, Ahmetaj said among other things.
By the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Deputy Chairman Lutfi Haziri says Kurt acted eight times without co-ordination, and that's how he's coming back now.
Haziri says this is a response the Kurti Government is receiving for eight cases when it acted without co-ordination and with the reason it is extending sovereignty to northern Kosovo.
“In terms of abolishing visas for Kosovo Serbs with illegal passports, so it is when it acts unilaterally in eight cases as if for sovereign purposes and sends “threats to minorities that even pensions have endangered them and social aid, that's how to get back to”He said about the Express.
