US elections and consequences for Kosovo, the former foreign minister Periscope talks: This government's relations with February-Albanian, catastrophic US

Former Kosovo Foreign Affairs Minister Mr. Petrit Selimi, in an interview given to Periscope, has talked about the pre-election political situation in the United States and, among other things, mentioned the government's approach to American politics. Citing accusations made in the past by Prime Minister Kurti, towards former president Donald Trump, Selimi has said that even with the Democrats he is not well, calling them, “catastrophic”.

All in the end, he has given a view of what Kosovo needs to change in relation to the United States, in order to improve policies between the two countries.

Below, find the full interview of Mr. Petrit Selimi given to Periscope:

Periscope: Mr. Selimi, you follow American politics and have led the massive investment project of the American MCC government, even in the time of President Trump and Biden. How did you analyze the pre-election political situation in the United States now, especially after the assassination against former President Trump?

Petrit Selimi: Initially, let me tell you that Kosovo has been blessed with support both of the Democrats and Republicans over decades. It was Democrat Congressman Lantos, but also Republican Senator Dole, who were vocal for Kosovo at the beginning of 90. First President Bush gave the line to Miloevici red, President Clinton then bombed and helped free Kosovo by affirming The NLA as a free-willed uprising, the young President Bush recognized our independence. President Obama helped recognise Kosovo and the JND decision, while President Trump made Kosovo an equal party in the White House and brought Israel's recognition.

I think the cardinal mistake of this government is to divide America into good “” and bad “”, because the national interest of Kosovo is not to export our polarisation but to contribute strategic wisdom to the action in Washington. Therefore, the American elections look at it as an opportunity to continue Kosovo's journey towards NATO membership, and everyone wins will have a different approach, perhaps diametrically different among themselves, but we must work to ensure that this support is continuous.

Periscope: Do you think Kurt government has been biased in its approach to American politics?

Petrit Selimi: I don't think so, but the facts speak. Kurti has publicly accused former President Trump of coups and caused total isolation by the republican party. Now it has managed to destroy relations with Democrats, as many as Senators and Democrat ambassadors have publicly expressed doubts as to whether Kurti is a partner of the United States. The Kosovo Government's diplomatic relations with the US and the entire political spectrum in the US are, in short, Albanian, catastrophic. There is no other word than catastrophic and very expensive for our national interest.

Periscope: President Osmani goes to Washington often, and has high-level meetings. Does the President balance these challenges that Government has in communication with Americans?

Petrit Selimi: The president well does go to America, but its effect is I domain of public relations and not a strategic communication that produces results. The executive is the governance branch, which is adjourned in dialogue with Serbia, in diplomacy, in regional co-operation. The president has a limited role. It was also seen in Minister Gervalla's letter to the Council of Europe, that President Osmani is not even informed by his minister on major issues, and permission me to have any influence on the Kosovo government's policy making. America sees things, not words.

If it comes to the second Presidency Trump, the focus will especially be on <x0-delives” or what Kosovo is doing, not for floral speeches where our mouth is filled with America, but we have shown ourselves utterly incapable of coordinating and understanding the urgent and kind messages of America. Let's not talk about insults and completely absurd accusations that the ruling regime and its online commentators factory deal with Blinken, Green, Hill, Escobar, or anyone who dares to express doubts about our prime minister.

Periscope: So there's a difference in Washington regarding Kosovo?

Petrit Selimi: I said we shouldn't make differences and get involved in American politics, but in Washington there are fundamental differences in foreign policy. These are natural because the world is changing dramatically and we have movement on the tectonic political plates that are remaking the world path.

The candidate for vice-president JD Vance is probably the figure that personifies ideological changes in America best from the new generation of politicians. I've been following for years his political commitment within the framework of a new American right that is fighting the old consensus of the political electorate. Kosovo is the result of this old consensus and we've been lucky since we've been released and independent, America has had the appetite for intervention in the state-run. This consensus exists no longer, or at least is being renegotiated, with a large portion of the electorate looking for “America first”, or that America's interests are defined not by altruism or universal value, which someone calls globalistic, but by the well-being of the Americans themselves. The government of Kosovo has not yet developed dialogue with this starting point. Someone calls this transactional concept almost insulting, so there is reason to worry. The Kosovo government is isolated from Washington, but even from Paris, Brussels and Berlin, and even in Tirana two hours away, we are not well. I'm afraid that the leadership of Kosovo is dividing leaders all over both of them into black and white, and that evil and good is defined according to the moral compass of the non-negotiable leader of Vetevendosje, without even getting into the quality of his political morality. But the world is increasingly getting shades of ash. And here comes the total cousin where public Vetevendosje supports the radical French left, even though the leader Melanchon of this left calls Kosovo a eternal state.

America is changing, perhaps even radically and perhaps long-term. We need to calibrate our decisions by preserving the alliance with any America being re-created because Kosovo's freedom and independence have no guarantees greater than America.

Periscope: What should Kosovo do in this case?

Petrit Selimi: The opposite of what he did for four years. We've cancelled the strategic project initiated by Americans for gas delivery. We ignored advice in dialogue, accusing American diplomats as pro-Serbian. We have failed to focus on our actions, spending economic amounts of time dealing with Serbia. This has been Serbia's trap to preserve the status quo by provoking Kosovo, and we have fallen into this trap. Just look at the orders of Senator Murphy, Secretary Blinken, Ambassador Hill and Havenier, or in the most extensive form of former intelligence number Richard Green, who will probably be the new Secretary of State. We're fucked with ours. It is time to start not only to change but also to act by contributing to American interests to the preservation of the interests of Kosovo and Albanians. / P ERISCOPIA
