The Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation has come up with a clarification following the recent publication of data showing there is a decline in terms of the number of students who submitted to the Matura Test after completing high school.
In June 2014 the senior exam was submitted to 42,052 seniors, while in June 2024 that number dropped to 18,285, representing a 56.5% reduction.
MASTICHA's explanation says that data in SMIA in 2014 on the system is recorded at 27.544 students in the 12th grade, and in 2024 there are 20,725, which, according to them, represents the correct difference within the high period.
“MASTTI reports that, in addition to 12th-graders, the Matura Test in 2014, 13th-graders were also subjected, as the 2013/2014 school year has been the last year that the 13th grade has existed in Kosovo's educational system.
THE students are also reminded that by 2016, students have not received a degree without Matura's examination, and the interest of students who failed to pass the test has been evidently greater to enter the following year, causing the number of seniors who have submitted to the test to be greater.
After a change in the State Mathing Law in 2016, according to which students after completing high education are equipped with diplomas, while as the Matura Proving receives their senior certificate, the interest of several students, especially those of professional education in submitting to testing has dropped.
This school year the number of students who have completed high secondary schooling is higher than the number of students who have entered the exam, while the difference within the decade is also due to the decline in the number of students at large”, says their clarification.
