Kosovo Democratic Party Secretary General Vlora Citaku has announced the Parliamentary Group The PDK next week will hand over the motion to sack the RTK Board after publishing the unverified news of “Slobodna Bosna”, through which other media are labeled for connection with Serbia.
Citaku, at a media conference, stressed that the motion for putting this board to account that has no courage to defend the public broadcaster and the standards of journalism on which public broadcasters' work should be organised is necessary.
This initiative is non-stop, emergency and in the function of protecting free speech and media freedom. RTK is of the public and should not become a power instrument to design, organise and broadcast slander and untruth against the media and their journalists in order to serve the ruling party in its desperate battle to fight the free word and truth that the public should know”, she said.
Citaku said RTK failed to stick to the fundamental principles of journalism because it failed to resist the political pressures of the Vetevendosje Movement, which RTK has turned into party media.
RTK's false <x0m news, which also quoted a Bosnian media medium whose article may have been written in the offices of the Vetevendosje Movement in Pristina, constitutes direct security and the life of journalists of these media on the one hand, but also the spread, in turn, the government campaign against the media and free speech, as a constitutional and democratic value of our state and society. So after all this, RTK does not have the credibility of the public broadcaster unless measures are taken against its leaders. Even some journalists of this medium who witnessed professional integrity distanced themselves from such spurious news were further lit from day to day. This slanderous news that disturbed the foundations of free speech in Kosovo and raised even countless reactions from local and international organisations, has an exact address, the RTK Board and Television Director”, Citaku said.
The PDK estimates that the inclusion of AKI officials, as reported, should be investigated by the Special Prosecutor as soon as possible in order to illuminate the truth.
Citaku considers continued efforts of power led by the Kurti Government to violate media freedom and free speech to be disturbing and unacceptable.
“in these four years, threats, insults and slander against journalists, decisions about media closure or even capture and control of the Independent Media Commission did not suffice. But their struggles with suppressing voices of information of truth in the public took on an extremely disturbing, dangerous, and unprecedented form of use. RTK as the public broadcaster, to plot fiction, slander and untruth against some of the respected media in Kosovo, only with the aim of disinforming the public, to violate the public's credibility towards these media by presenting them without any basis as instruments financed by Serbia and Russia”, she added.
The media and their free work should not disturb any government or any power if the latter carry out their official duty under the law. But when there are abuses and abuses, corruption and abuse, media are fought because they are the voice of truth by which citizens are informed.
