The 20-year-old from Pennsylvania who conducted the assassination against former President Donald Trump had pictures of Mr. Trump, President Joe Biden and other American officials, including Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Chris Wray, according to two people aware of the case.
Investigators investigating the author's electronic devices of the Thomas Matthew attack Crooks have also found that he had sought out the dates of the Democratic National Assembly as well as dates of Mr Trump's speeches, according to persons who spoke with the Associated Press agency on the condition that they were not identified to discuss the details of an ongoing investigation.
According to three people aware of the investigation, he had also been searching the internet for “major depressive disorder”. But investigators have not yet determined whether he was diagnosed with depression, one of the sources said.
Studies have shown that the vast majority of people with mental illness are not violent, and experts say that most people who are violent do not have mental illness.
“We don't have any data on any mental health problems”, the special agent who runs Pittsburgh's FBI office said at a news conference Sunday.
Investigators are trying to find out what motivated the author of the attack to open fire at the campaign rally Saturday in an effort to kill the Republican presidential candidate.
He killed one participant at the rally and seriously injured two others. Mr. Trump was easily injured in his ear, but he was not seriously hurt, and he appeared only a few days later at the Republican National Assembly in Milwaukee, wearing a bandage.
The FBI has said it is investigating the attack as possible acts of internal terrorism, but the lack of a clear ideological motive by Crooks, who was killed by the Secret Service, has created ground for spreading conspiracy theories.
Crooks used an AR-style rifle, which authorities said was legally bought by his father. Authorities found an bulletproof vest in his car and another explosive device in his house, where in recent months he had received several packages, including some with dangerous materials.
The FBI provided access to Mr. Crooks' cell phone, searched his computer, his house and car, and interviewed more than 100 people so far.
The attack has raised serious questions about why the rule forces were unable to prevent the attack. / VOA
