The arrest of former KLA soldier Svechla: We allow Serbia's criminal demands to hinder the movement of our citizens

“We will not allow a third country criminal request that has no legal basis nor in international law prevents the free movement of our citizens”, Kosovo Interior Affairs Minister Jhelal Svecla, who is on official visit to the Ministry of Internal Affairs [...] said today.
“We will not allow a third country criminal request that has no legal basis, nor in international law, to prevent the free movement of our citizens”, Kosovo Interior Affairs Minister Jhelal Svecla, who is on official visit to the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Northern Macedonia, said today.
In response to journalists' questions about Serbia's request for the extradition of former KLA member Blerim Ramadani, who was arrested last week at the Jazynica border crossing between Kosovo and Northern Macedonia, the number one Kosovo police says the North Macedonia Court has decided in the case.
I think in the case you should ask the Justice Ministry, a ministry covering this area. As for the extradition of our citizens at Serbia's request, in that case there is a statement, the court in the Republic of Macedonia has decided. We are willing to speak and work as two neighbouring countries and as two friendly countries and will not allow the criminal demands of a third country that have no legal basis in international law to prevent the free movement of our citizens”, Svechla stressed.
In terms of current justice minister Igor Fillkov's request for Kosovo to extradite Alil Demirin and Africa Ismailovici both sentenced to life imprisonment in the case known as “Monstra”, Svecla says these two cases should not be interconnected.
I think he made that request to his colleague. So these two cases we can't tie in any way. In the case you mention, it means it's a third country. So it's about a state which in regional co-operation is also a problem for better co-operation among the countries of the region, while not talking about the obstacles, bad jobs and the crime they are doing in relation to Kosovo”, Svechla said.
The collected data, added, has been delivered to the Kosovo Public Prosecutor.
The “had all possible analysis, all investigations, have already been realised. So we have all the data, they have been collected and handed over to the PP of Kosovo for this case, and we expect the PP to make criminal speculation aimed at attacking Kosovo's territorial integrity”, Svechla said.
Former KLA soldier Blerim Ramadani at the request of the Prosecutor for Organised Crime has been assigned the 30-day extradition detention measure. It was banned on July 17th 2024 at the crossing between Kosovo and Macedonia and was immediately transferred to the Shutka prison in Skopje.
