The group of Katalunas “Junts” have proposed to the Spain Parliament an initiative through which they will seek the government of Spain recognition of Kosovo independence. Their initiative will be put to the polls on June 25th. So confirmed Carles Puidgemont's staff chief, Josep Alay.
The “Vosion will take place next Tuesday, so June 25th”, Alay said of the Express Journal.
The Catalan Party “Yunts for Catalunya”, which is represented in the Spain Parliament on 5 June, has submitted a parliamentary proposal to the parliament of Spain, where they ask the government of Spain to recognise Kosovo as an independent state.
The initiative, which will be debated next Tuesday, argues that Kosovo is “a legal and democratic state of about 1.7 million residents”, which is recognised as an independent state by over 100 countries, including 22 EU members.
Responding to the reasonings of five EU states that still recognise Kosovo's independence, among which is Spain, “Junts” has recalled that the International Court of Justice ( SEND) decided in July 2010 that Kosovo's “declaration of independence has not violated international law” and that there is no rule preventing it from continuing as such.
Spain's “refusal to recognise a state that used its legitimate right to self-rule is an obstacle to the European policy of involvement of the Western Balkans in the EU, and this is a factor of destabilising the area into a context marked by war in Ukraine that this part of Europe is experiencing it with particular anxiety”, say by “Junts” in the commentary memorandum.
In the opinion of this party, “is not acceptable that the Spanish state shares the same strategy as Russia, China or Belarus for refusing to recognise Kosovo”, especially when, according to the initiative, in which “Europe Press” had access, “Spain already has indirect relations with Kosovo” and since January past “the government has been forced to recognise Kosovo passports because Kosovo has joined the exclusion regime for short stays in the Schengen” area.
For all these reasons, <x0Juts” considers that “in support of the efforts being made by the institutions and the people of Kosovo to protect their right to exist as an independent state, the Spanish state must give up its refusal and must continue with the immediate recognition of the Republic of Kosovo”.
In this sense, the text presented simply proposes that Congress should promote “governance to recognise the Republic of Kosovo as sovereign state”.
