It is an extraordinary honor to be appointed NATO Secretary General. The alliance is and will remain the cornerstone of our collective security. The leadership of this organization is a responsibility I do not take lightly. I am grateful to all the allies for their trust in me. I look forward to taking over the energy position in October, as a descendant of Jens Stoltenberg, who gave it to him NATO has a remarkable leadership over the past 10 years and for which I have always had great admiration”, Rutte wrote.
