Hamburg police have confirmed that they have shot a person who threatened them with axes near the place where Dutch fans have gathered for their Euro-2024 match.
The incident occurred in Hamburg's St Pauli district, just before Poland faces the Netherlands at Volksparkstadion near 2: 00 p.m.
A Hamburg police statement says: “in St Pauli is currently a major police operation. According to initial findings, a person threatened police officers with an axe and a lighting tool. Then the police used firearms. The aggressor was injured and is currently receiving medical treatment”.
About 40,000 fans were Hamburg marching peacefully as the incident occurs.
