Ex-missioner of NATO during the air campaign against Serbia in 1999, Jamie Shea spoke about the experiences of the Kosovo Albanian population facing mass killings.
Shea has shown the relief she received when NATO had successfully completed the mission and caused people to start living in peace.
“A great sense of relief that NATO's air campaign had successfully ended and that we could all go from the most difficult and controversial aspect of the NATO mission using force and bomb disposal to the more positive and constructive aspect of Kosovo stabilisation and its ability for people to live in peace and freedom”, Shea said.
He also tells of the anxiety they had when they heard the Russians were moving to Kosovo.
“There was a moment of anxiety when the Russians were displaced to Kosovo, but fortunately that mini-crit was resolved peacefully, and the Russians joined KFOR and operated at Pristina airport for several years without incidentting”, he said.
My most beautiful and sustainable “was my trip to Pristina several days after the first KFOR troops were introduced. I met the people of Kosovo and learned how they had survived the violence and depression of Milosevic's army and police on the ground. Their experience made my role in NATO seem very modest. But I was extremely proud of what we had all achieved together”, th Shaa.
Former spokeswoman NATO said there is no report with Serbs now, and according to him, they still prefer their version of history.
I have no relationship with the Serbs now. Not by my choice, since I know millions of Serbs rejected Milosevic's dictatorship and today want their country to be part of a democratic and liberal Europe. But I have never received an invitation to visit Belgrade to discuss the NATO mission in Kosovo with Serbian government officials. I see they prefer their version of the history”, Jamie Shea said.
