Sixteen border police officers at Rinass Airport in Albania are allegedly involved in a corruption scheme for the transition of persons to European Union countries illegally.
For eight of them, security measures have already been allocated, while eight others are being investigated in a free state.
According to a report by the Tirana Prosecution, police officers allegedly, in co-operation with the owner of a travel agency, have provided opportunities for the passage of Albanian citizens from various European countries.
The court has placed security measures “in prison for one of the border police officers; “house arrest” for three others; and “due to be submitted to police” for four more.
The doubts that fall on them concern “task usage” and “passive corruption”.
The owner of the agency that has collaborated was banned a few days ago after being seized by narcotics.
Continued investigations, then, uncovered the group's scheme in question.
According to the Prosecutor in Tirana, at least 200 citizens have been allowed to pass illegally from Rinas Airport “Mother Teresa” to EU countries.
In one case, it turns out that even passage of a minor has been allowed without parental procuration.
The group that enabled the transition reportedly benefited a total of 500 euros each.
This illegal activity, according to the Prosecution in Tirana, lasted about a year from March 2023 to March of this year. /rel
