Many families receiving social assistance in Kosovo have been signed to various forms of discrimination as a result of several criteria of state-run social aid scheme.
To eliminate discrimination, the Finance Ministry has launched a reforming process of social assistance scheme last month.
Communication expert under this project, Elvira Berisha, told Kosovo Radio of this reform aimed at creating equality and reducing poverty.
This reform is designed with the aim of extending equality, eliminating discrimination that currently has social assistance schemes,Berisha said.
Likewise, Berisha has explained that the new scheme has been designed to include and toė best reach the country's poorest groups, however “reactivating social scheme beneficiaries in the labour market”.
Berisha argued that this process is important because data obtained from this pilot will serve to draft the bill for social schemes.
The lessons learned from this pilot that have started will also be reflected in the social protection bill and in the social scheme that is currently being prepared”, Berisha has clarified.
Despite warnings of radical change in the social scheme, the reform process and Finance Minister Iron Murati are still unclear for many citizens, has said that the main <x0-understanding is who can apply and who qualify for profit”.
Murati has clarified that this is the continuation of the existing social assistance scheme, but the difference lies in removing discriminatory criteria, such as having children under five years of age.
Also with the new scheme, social aid does not end with automatism, which in the first month the family begins generating revenue but is given an opportunity to take advantage of social schemes for at least three more months.
Still, it is not clear whether the social scheme warned that they will eliminate discriminatory criteria will increase the profit for families involved in this category, which is currently worth 60 to 180 euros depending on the number of family members.
