European Union officials (BE) believe that politicians should not politicise festivals promoting cultural exchanges among countries, such as the “Good afternoon festival, Dobar dan”, following calls by officials assigned to Belgrade for its annulment.
It is important to refrain from stimulating language, and politicising what is essentially a cultural initiative of civil society organisations that want to promote intercultural and intercultural exchanges. Such exchanges are an important part of normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia, and this event should be held”, EU spokesman Peter Stano told Radio Free Europe.
Officials assigned to Belgrade have called for the annulment of this festival, despite the fact that this event is aimed at creating a platform for co-operation and dialogue between the citizens of Serbia and Kosovo.
“Organisers should be able to work in a safe environment, and all citizens who want to enjoy the festival must do so in accordance with their right to freedom of expression and peaceful rally”, Stano said.
Calls for cancellation or postponement of the festival are being made because the three-day event coincides with Vidovdan.
This religious and national holiday is celebrated on June 28th in memory of the Battle of Kosovo, when Serb and Turkish armies crashed in 1389. / REL/
