Four dead and 23 injured in a train crash in Czech Republic

At least four people lost their lives, and another 23 were injured after a passenger train crashed into a freight train in the Czech Republic, authorities reported on Thursday. Interior Minister Vitt Rakusan said the clash occurred late Wednesday evening in the town of Pardubice ʹ about 100 km east of Prague.
The high-speed passenger train belonged to the private RegioJet company.
Rakusan said none of the wounded were in danger for life.
Transport Minister Martin Kupka said the main road between Prague and the eastern part of the country should be closed as authorities investigated the clash.

The state train company, the Czech Railways, said the rails could stay closed for the entire day “due to the accident rate”.
Rescue teams said that more than 300 passengers were on the speeding train headed for the city of Kosice, eastern Slovakia.
The dead were not immediately identified.
The leaders of both engines survived, the local news agency CTK said.
Prime Minister Petr Fiala called the accident a great tragedy and expressed his condolences to the families of the dead. / REL
