Tajikistan has long had an unofficial ban on religious dress in public institutions, but a new bill would ban importation, sale, clothing and advertising of hyjab, foreign media write, Telegrafi notes.
Those who violate the new law can also be fined by $740 for individuals to $5,400 for legal persons.
Lawmaker Mavludakhon Mirzoeva has said the bill includes a ban on clothing considered foreign “” for domestic culture.
Although controversial, the bill is expected to be adopted and signed in law by President Emomali Rahmon.
