“Putin won't stop in Ukraine. All of Europe will be threatened, we will not let this happen. The United States is standing firm with Ukraine. We will not leave”, Biden told reporters during his state visit to France.
For his part, the French president thanked the American counterpart for his loyalty and respect towards Europeans.
I thank you, Mr. President, for being the president of the world's number one power, but for doing so with the loyalty of a partner who likes and respects Europeans”
Both Biden and Macron leaders met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Paris on Friday, pledging support for the Ukrainian cause.
France and the United States will also double their joint efforts to avoid further increasing tensions in the Middle East, especially to reduce tensions between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, Macron told reporters.
Macron said Paris and Washington had seen escalations from Iran to the region and that the two countries were determined to exert the pressure needed to stop this trend.
The American president has been in France since Wednesday and participated in commemorations this week marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day landing that changed the course of World War II.
On Friday, Biden warned of the need to preserve American democracy and drew parallels between World War II and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
