Supporters of the opposition in Albania protested in front of parliament today to demand Prime Minister Edi Rama's departure, while tensions were not lacking during the session.
Protesters lit car tires and crashed into police forces, while sometimes tried to break the congested cord of law employees at the entrance of parliament.
The protest was prompted by a show on Italian television newsman Rhei 3, under which organised crime has extended its influence on Albanian political and economic life. Charges that were dropped by Mr. Rama himself during an interview for Italian television.
The issue caused strong debate and in parliament's hall. Opposition MPs had demanded a motion with debate over the organised crime situation, but their request was rejected.
Parliament Speaker Lindita Nikola said the request was not in line with the regulation, and then the Socialist deputies voted against it. Because of tensions, the session was interrupted several times to follow suit normally with the issues of the agenda. / VOA
