US Undersecretary of State for Diplomacy and Public Affairs Liz Allen has considered the formation of the Association of Serb majority municipalities in Kosovo as an essential step in life of Kosovo's Euro-Atlantic goals.
She has made those statements after the meeting held Sunday with Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani.
I confirm that we support Kosovo's trajectory towards Euro-Atlantic institutions, through close co-operation, and I know this is important to you. We discussed the essential step in Kosovo's Euro-Atlantic path, the Association of Serb-run municipalities”, Allen has said.
Taking steps towards association has been a condition for Kosovo even for membership in the Council of Europe leadership organisation in the field of human rights earlier this week.
A day before the meeting of the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers, Kosovo authorities have said that during the month of May they will submit for consideration to the Constitutional Court of Kosovo, a proposal for formation of association, but senior Western officials have said something like this is insufficient to meet the condition.
The Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers meets once a year, and it remains unclear when Kosovo can become a member of the organisation.
