Revote in Northern Macedonia, Coalition Wins Parliamentary Place

Following a repeat of the vote Wednesday at seven centres in election areas number 5 and 6 in northern Macedonia, the Democratic Union for Integration and the European Front coalition lost an MP seat, while the coalition deserves one more seat in parliament. The revote in the village of Llerca of the Jelina municipality near Tetovo resulted in the coalition's victory is valid, bringing the number of lawmakers of this coalition of Albanian parties to 14. Meanwhile, the Democratic Union for Integration with its coalition will have a less MP, 18, as much as it has, and the Social Democratic League can no longer be called the second political force in the country.

In the fifth area, which includes Ohrid, Struga, Krusevo and other settlements, it was revoted to six centres, but the result remains the same, without changes to the number of MPs. But these are not final results because there may be excises from the parties involved in the revote process.

The vote was repeated at seven polling stations of 5 and 6 in the western and southwest of the country following coalition complaints worth, VMRO-DPMNE, LSDM and party “E Majta” for irregularities in the May 8th parliamentary elections.

DUI and the European Front have described the decision to revote as a common scenario of all parties and the State Election Commission to distort the will of the people and violate the legitimacy stemming from the voting post on May 8th.

Meanwhile, “Vlen” and VMRO accused DUI of vote buying, of pressure and blackmailing voters in the first two weeks' elections.

VMRO and “Vlen”, according to expectations, can be hired by the end of the week for the division of ministries and other government posts and for the government cabinet programme led by Hristian Mickovski. But these parties have not explained the position regarding the issue of constitutional changes to introduce the Bulgarian minority, which sets the stage for walking the country towards the European Union. Mr. Mickovski has reiterated the statement that his government will not act according to the “the Bulgarian dictator”.

On the other hand, there are concerns in Skopje about the country's possibility of isolation as far as European integration process is concerned, unless international agreements with Greece and Bulgaria are respected. / VOA
