Iran's government has called a <x0 emergency meeting” on Monday after announcing that President Ebrahim Reis and the country's foreign minister were among those who died of the helicopter crash.
According to Iranian state news agency I The RNA, the seating chair of Reiss, was empty and wrapped in a black belt in memory of the president.
Time and details of a mourning procession will be announced later, the FARS News Agency reported.
Military analyst Cedric Leighton, meanwhile, told CNN that the weather would have played a key role in the collapse of the helicopter that killed Iranian President Ebrahim Reis.
With temperatures below 50 degrees there is a higher likelihood of rotor blade freezing. There is a possibility of the potential failure of the” engine, he said.
Leighton added that maintenance of the plane would also have played a role, showing how Iran lived under sanctions and using old equipment to transport their high-level leaders.
The other “factor in this would be maintenance, whether the helicopter was properly maintained”, he added.
