The Council of Europe's foreign ministers gathered in Strasbourg yesterday at the annual session on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of this organisation, where they discussed specific issues. Kosovo did not even enter the agenda, while it is unknown when it will come to order again.
Kosovo's involvement in the agenda prompted opposition parties to criticise Prime Minister Albin Kurti, saying his experiments are endangering the subjectivity of the state and failure to accept the Council of Europe is evidence that the country is losing international support.
Democratic Party of Kosovo Chairman Memli Krasniqi has described Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe as a bitter day, while he has said 17 May is evidence of the loss of support by Kosovo's international partners.
“Today is a bitter day for Kosovo and our citizens. Today, we would have to celebrate admission to the Council of Europe. Instead of demonstrating a success that would strengthen democracy, rule of law and our citizenship, and for what has been worked long, today we witness the loss of support by our international partners. This government, this power, without excluding any of the responsibilities of state institutions, failed to finalise an almost done job. His support turned into ignored. Belief in disappointment. And the safe future of our citizens turned it into a high political bill that they should pay the same”, he wrote.
According to him, access to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, where the principles of justice of the European Bill of Human Rights -- which is also recorded within the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo -- would be of great benefit to our citizens and state.
“After Russia's expulsion from the Council of Europe in March 2022, like the PDK we immediately insisted that Kosovo initiate procedures to become part of this organisation, giving our unscathed support to every step of this” process, Krasniqi wrote.
Unfortunately, according to the PDK chief, today, two years later, when everything was ready after we had secured the necessary support, due to our government's complete inefficiency and extreme accountability, even this opportunity was lost. Even worse, we don't know when he'll show up again.
Kosovo citizens today have every right to feel indignant and unrepresented. They and our country deserve better. To The PDK, the road to the European integration of our state is irreverent. Our dedication to justice, democracy and full rights for every Kosovo citizen remains steadfast”, he has added.
For these reasons, the boss of The PDK has called for early elections and the formation of a new government.
“Therefore, going to early elections, creating a new government, creditable, competent and responsible, which removes Kosovo from isolation and directs it from secure Euro-Atlantic integration. Today, even officially this power has lost its legitimacy. The state needs citizens and they must say their word!”
AAK Chairman Ramush Haradinaj has reacted after Kosovo's failure to join the Council of Europe, which has said failure is billed to Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
Kosovo's non-involvement to the Council of Ministers for voting is Kosovo's biggest failure in the international arena. This failure is billed to a man and he is Albin Kurti. His experiments, not only have severely damaged the country's image, but also weakened the subjectivity of the state”, Haradinaj said.
I call on the EU states not to punish the citizens and the state of Kosovo, because of the irresponsability and lack of seriousness of a man, but to reach out to us and pave the way for integration. We don't have another road!
LDK Headship member Muhamet Hamiti, guilty of failing to leave the government alone.
He said the government's fault is because it is failing to convince even Kosovo's historic partners regarding the justice of its cause.
Kosovo has fulfilled the criteria, and we would like to enter today, and I believe that all, like the government, like opposition parties, as civil society would enjoy Kosovo membership today. Today we would have a party, but we don't have it, primarily because of this government that's failing to convince even Kosovo's historical supporters of the justice of its” cause, Hamiti has declared in Klan.
