Nissinen says membership must happen very soon and hopes that this will be accomplished in May.
“Finlanda has been a powerful supporter of Kosovo's membership in the KiE since it was in the agenda and we have continued to support further. We think it should happen very quickly and we hope that in May this will also become reality”, he said in Tv1.
Meanwhile, it says Finland does not link the issue of association with CoE membership.
“Finland has not been about connecting issues that are not directly related to membership in the Council of Europe. I think in the very clear report it was mentioned that the matter with the land of the Decani Monastery was a pre-membership condition, and that condition was met”, the ambassador stated.
He says Finland has a clear position and fully supports membership.
Our location is very clear. We support Kosovo membership, and the main issue is respect for human rights. We think that in the long term, membership will serve as a stabilising element, perhaps regionally. Therefore, we see no reason why no membership should be continued with”, he added.
