Northern Macedonia's top diplomat, Bujar Osmani, has lobbied for Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe during the Committee of Ministers meeting in Strasbourg.
Adding that Kosovo deserves to become a member of the Council of Europe, Osman stressed that membership will affect stability of regional co-operation as well.
It is of great importance that we do not avoid embracing new members who share our values and commitments. That is why we have consistently supported Kosovo's bid for membership in the Council of Europe, and we welcome the opinion that recommends the Committee of Ministers to invite Kosovo for membership to this organisation”, Osmani said.
“We believe that Kosovo citizens deserve to be protected by the European Convention for Human Rights and other instruments and that early membership will facilitate continued reforms and also contribute to regional stability and co-operation”, Osmani has said, broadcast Klan Kosova.
Kosovo has failed to be part of this meeting's agenda in Strasbourg, due to its refusal by the Kosovo government of the demands of Germany, France and Italy to take concrete steps for association.
While during the day, the current chairman of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers, Dominice Hasler, has indicated that this commission is considering how to proceed for Kosovo's accession to this organisation.
