Ministerial and regional summit meetings of Western Balkan leaders in Skopje and Tirana have been held over the past months.

At these meetings, leaders and ministers of countries in the region and representatives of the European Union and the United States of America have discussed the Western Balkans Growth Plan, which includes six billion euros in grants and loans to accelerate socio-economic convergence with the European Union.

At the Tirana summit, whose host was Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, other regional leaders also attended -- Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, Northern Macedonia Prime Minister Talat Xhaferi, and Bosnia and Herzegovina Council of Ministers President Boryana Christo.

At this meeting Kosovo had no representatives, while physically present it was not Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti. His participation was argued that Kurti had previous “angmime”. But he had directed participants through a video education. The Montenegrin prime minister had acted the same.

The EU's plan for the Western Balkans aims to boost the region's economic growth, accelerate relevant reforms, and carry out investments, which can advance the EU enlargement process with these countries.

A similar summit for the plan was held on 22,01,2024 in Skopje, North Macedonia.

The new economic growth plan in the Western Balkan countries, adopted by the European Commission on November 8, 2023, is based on four pillars.
