France's President Emmanuel Macron reiterated on Thursday that he does not rule out the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine, adding that this issue would be <x0-legime” if Russia penetrates across Ukrainian front lines and Kiev makes such a request.
He made these statements in an interview for the Economist, which was released on May 2nd.
Economist said Macron gave this interview after giving a speech last week, when he declared that Europe is the deadly “ ” and “could die”, in part due to the threat posed by Russian aggression, as Moscow began Ukraine's unprotested invasion in February 2022.
“I do not dismiss any possibility, because we are facing someone who does not reject any possibility of”, Macron said when asked if he still sticks to comments he made at the beginning of this year, when he said he did not rule out the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine.
Some analysts believe Russia may be on the verge of a very large new offensive in Ukraine.
Macron said that “if Russia decides to go further, we will be forced, in any case, to ask ourselves this question” for sending troops to Ukraine. He described a movement such as “strategic warning to my counterparts”.
He described Russia as a “power of regional destabilisation” and as “threat to European security”.
“I have a clear strategic goal: Russia cannot win in Ukraine”, Macron stressed.
There will be no security in Europe if Russia wins in Ukraine. Who can pretend Russia will stop there? What security will there be for other neighbouring countries, Moldova, Romania, Poland, Lithuania and others?” he asked. / REL
