Israeli troops fight Hamas in Rafah

Israeli troops are struggling with Hamas' radicals -- the Palestinian group declared terrorist organisation by the United States and the European Union -- in Rafah, south of Gaza, where a missile attack and an Israeli incubation earlier this week led to the closure of border crossings, from which the aid of [...]
The battle is also under way in the Zeitun area, on the outskirts of Gaza City, in the northern part of the territory. Northern Gaza was the first target of the ground offensive, and Israel said last year that it has almost completely eliminated Hamas' presence in this area.
In a statement Friday, the Israeli Army said it has located several tunnels east of Rafah, near the border with Egypt and has eliminated radicals “during the long-distance fighting and through air attacks”.
Hamas' military arm said he has carried out a complex attack, attacking a house where Israel's troops were in position, a car, and soldiers operating on foot.
There is still no comment on these claims by the Israeli army. Also, this claim by the Palestinian radical group has not been independently confirmed.
Hamas also said he has issued a series of mortars at the Kerem Shalom crossing, which is located near the place where Israeli troops operate. The Israeli army said it has repented two rockets.
This crossing was closed after a rocket attack last weekend, when four Israeli soldiers were killed. Israel said it has reopened the border on its side, but the United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees said it is impossible on Gaza's side to reopen the crossing due to ongoing fighting.
On Tuesday, the Israeli forces took control of the crossing between Rafah and Egypt, forcing the crossing to close.
Aid groups have said that border closures will prevent humanitarian operations in the territory, where residents are facing hunger.
More than 100,000 people have left Rafahu because of the fighting, the United Nations said.
Almost 1.3 million Palestinians over half of Gaza's population have been sheltered in Rafah since the war began.
The Gaza War began on October 7th after Hamas attacked the south of Israel, killing about 1,200 people and kidnapping another 250. As a result of the Israeli offensive, more than 34,500 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the day before the United States threatened that they would not give Israel some weapons, trying to prevent Israel from expanding the offensive at the Gaza Strip. REL
