Government: Removal of Kosovo punitive measures is delayed

Just as the EU top diplomat's report, Josep Borrell, was expected to lift or not the measures imposed on Kosovo to be completed, recent developments in northern Kosovo appear to have affected the duration of this wait. And fear of prolonging the process is likely to continue holding elections [...]

And fears of extending the process are likely continuing to hold upcoming elections in EU institutions.

The deputy prime minister's office calls for this not to happen as they assess the removal of delayed measures.

The European Union must remove punitive and unfair measures against Kosovo as our country has met all conditions set earlier, through the Bratislava agreement. With holding and concluding the voting process for or against the departure of mayors from office in northern Mitrovica municipalities Zvecan, Zubin Potok and Leposaviqi, there is no longer any sense in continuing to maintain the measures. The situation on the ground, which Kosovo was falsely charged with the crossing, has already been eskating” for months.

“We hold in expectation of EU High Policy Representative Josep Borrell's report, in which the fulfillment of obligations made by our authorities should be confirmed. Any differing findings would be unfair, would constitute distorting developments on the ground and necessarily unilateral and pointless misuse of measures on the part of the EC. The north has returned to normality, and every day is working on the integration of the Serb community, beyond the efforts and destabilizing approach of our northern neighbour. The removal of measures that are too late should not be postponed further in light of the upcoming elections in European Union institutions. We repeat the call, for removing them as soon as we can, said Klisman Cadiu, adviser to Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi. /Dukagini
