Kosovo police have said 6 May that the two Russians have been detained at the border point with Serbia, Jarinje and have arrived there since Nis of Serbia, as they did not have Kosovo visas.
These two Russians, Khusam Azam, 57, professor, and Elena Azam, 55, gynecologist, have been sentenced to 250 euros, a North Mitrovica Foundation Court official has said in an answer to Radio Free Europe
“They have been sentenced under Article 140 of the Kosovo Criminal Code. It's a 250-euro sentence, or six-day prison sentence. This is a legal case and the court has pronounced the sentence specified in law”, a North Mitrovica Foundation Court official has said.
All Russian citizens, including those with diplomatic passports who want to enter, pass transit or stay in Kosovo, must be equipped with visas.
This decision was made in 2022.
Until then, Russian citizens with diplomatic and official passports have been allowed entry, transitation and staying up to 15 days on the territory of the Republic of Kosovo without visas.
Russia does not recognise Kosovo's citizenship.
However, the two countries have formal relations. The Russian Liaison Office in Pristina has been opening since 2005, even though its public activity is very little on display. / REL/
