Dutch Eurodeput: Kosovo deserves to become KiE member

US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Gabriel Escobar was the first to warn that Kosovo should take concrete steps to establish association before thinking of membership in the Council of Europe. Those statements were made during March by the American diplomat on a visit to Pristina.
Now, when there is a week ahead of the Committee of Ministers meeting in the Council of Europe, Kosovo is being asked by the leading European states to send a draft state to the Constitutional Court.
And with this approach of friendly states, the country's prime minister, Albin Kurti, who yesterday during a media conference, said conditioning KiE membership with association is absurd.
Attention, these developments are being followed by the Dutch Eurodeput, Thijs Reuten.
This says Kosovo has fulfilled all the criteria to become a member of the Council of Europe.
“I hope that Kosovo will return to the agenda for next week when the Committee of Ministers meets in the Council of Europe, because Kosovo has indeed met the criteria for membership in this organisation. Dora Bakoyannis' report has backed most of the Council of Europe member states, so Kosovo must return to the agenda”, he says of Teva 1
On the other hand, the Dutch diplomat sees Kosovo's conditioning with the Association of Serb majority municipalities unfair.
He has called on Council member states to change their stance before the meeting of the Committee of Ministers, to be held next week.
The most disappointing “I see that some important states are now looking for something from Kosovo that has not been previously intended to become a member of the Council of Europe. I really think it's an unfair approach and that's why I'm calling on these countries to change their attitude. Kosovo has acknowledged that I will work on establishing the Association of Serb-run municipalities, but this issue should not be included in the Council of Europe”, the Dutch Eurodeput says.
The two major states of Europe, France and Germany have called for conditioning Kosovo's membership in the KiE with the Association of Serb majority municipalities. /tat1
