US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the United States has long rejected the investigation of the International Criminal Tribunal for War in Gaza, because it believes it “has no jurisdiction over this issue”.
Explaining the position of the Biden administration, Blinken said the JNP was “created by its parties as a court of limited jurisdiction”.
“These restrictions are rooted in the principles of compensation, which appear to have not been implemented here amid the prosecutor's haste to request these arrest warrants instead of allowing the Israeli legal system a full and timely opportunity to continue,” he said.
Blinken added that the JNP prosecutor has deviated from the usual legal process by applying for arrest warrants, CNN reports.
In other situations, the prosecutor postponed national investigations and worked with states to give them time to investigate. The prosecutor did not offer the same opportunity to Israel, which has ongoing investigation into charges against his personnel”, Blinken said.
